The Sherwood Duo

The Sherwood Duo consists of Sherwood on vocals, harp and some old style slide guitar, and Bill Thomas on ryhthm and slide as well. Unlike The Sherwood Blues Band, which is dedicated more to the Chicago blues, The Sherwood Duo is dedicated more to the Mississippi Delta blues. If you want to experience the blues in an unplugged, up close and totally acoustic way, this is a duo to check out! Bill Thomas is regarded as one of the finest blues guitar players in the state of Maryland. His focus and dedication to the blues genre both in the band and in the duo are appreciated deeply by Sherwood. Bill moves effortlessly between deep Mississippi Delta blues, Peidmont blues and even Mississippi Delta spirituals. It would be unfair, however, to talk only about Bill's musical proficiency and not talk about his heart. Without question, Bill has a heart for the blues. With over thirty years of experience Bill's well runs deep.

Now for the other half of the duo. Sherwood was born to play the blues, period. He is the consummate bluesman, with a deep and uncompromising passion for the purest form of blues. Sherwood calls his style of blues Authentic...Bedrock...Blues®. Those three words describe his sound perfectly. Authentic because it comes straight from his heart. Bedrock, because you can get no closer to the core of traditional blues music. Blues because that is the genre he was born to play. Sherwood is somewhat of a renaissance man, as well. You may hear an a cappella slave song, maybe "John Henry" or maybe "Amazing Grace," with an oh, so sweet slide guitar played by Sherwood himself. And the piece will be delivered with one of the strongest, purest baritone voices around. It is the classic African American voice, perfectly suited to perform a classic African American style of song. What motivates Sherwood to perform in the way he does can be summed up in one word--"Love". He cares deeply about the music he performs and this comes across in a very genuine way.
